Provides
many financial opportunities for musicians by requiring that
the CFMA National board and local chapters
only hire Cajun bands for all of its festivals, meetings, and
special events.
Recognizes
the contribution traditional Cajun musicians make towards the
promotion and preservation of the Cajun French language and
music by the annual presentation of the Le Cajun awards.
Acknowledges
the great contributions made by our senior musicians and community
leaders through the presentation of Plaque Awards.
Provides
musicians with free access to health care information and screening
through our ongoing cooperation with the Southwest Louisiana
Area Health Education Center and it's outreach work in affiliation
with Health Care for Musicians.

Cajun music programming on KRVS the University of Louisiana
public broadcasting station.
Works
in cooperation with other civic organizations, Lafayette Visitors
and Convention Center, Music Matters, and the Acadiana Arts
Council in an effort to gain a Grammy category that recognizes
our indigenous music in SW Louisiana.
The
Lafayette Chapter of the CFMA is developing a database of musicians
of all ages that will be given to local and state agencies and
club owners in order to bring more exposure and more opportunities
for jobs.
SCHOLARSHIPS AND MENTORING FOR YOUTH
Provides
financial awards and scholarships to encourage young people
who want to learn to play Cajun music or further their education.
Master
musicians are provided as mentors and teachers to one child selected
from each chapter in what is known as the New Dawn Awards.
Encourages
children to learn and speak the French language through our
support of the French Immersion programs in public schools
and our French speaking contests that is held annually.
Each
CFMA chapter holds a queens pageant and selects a Queen to represent
their chapter. These young women move forward in the public eye
and develop poise, grace, public speaking skills as well as learn
more about their culture and people.
COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT
CFMA
chapters conduct music and dance lessons for the public.
CFMA
chapters often hold jams that allow any musician, new, old,
experience, novice to play, learn and enjoy the music.
The
CFMA chapter meetings are open to the public and provide a
family environment for anyone who enjoys
Cajun music.
